I like it.
This is the other side of paradise
The Revivalists continue their evolvement with this album. Their years of blood, sweat and tears on the road performing show after show has truly paid off with crisp lyrics, masterful melodies and that true jazz rock New Orleans foundation. It has been incredible to watch their journey along the way. Their latest offering is nothing short of a musical masterpiece. Thank you Revivalists for the last decade. To the next one!
Definite change in sound
It sounds like either "the suites" brought in writers in an attempt to write some hits or these guys were just going for a more commercial sound. Whatever the case may be, the songs are more straight forward and polished. That being said, it's still decent, just not quite as good as what they were doing in the past.

I’m hoping this is one of those releases you have because you want to try something different. Now that you got that out, can we go back to the music with soul?
Misses the Mark

Love these guys, love seeing them in concert, but this album isn't them, fire this producer and go back to making the kind of music we've all come to expect from such a fine band.
Take Good Care - Revivalists
Never written a review for anything. Never felt the need; this album is soooo good that It compelled me to enfranchise this album to all music lovers. Been a huge fan for the past 10 years stumbling upon Soulfight from Nola friends. Hard to predict them out doing themselves with Take Good Care. Best and most eclectic album to date showing a wide range of musical talent. Appealing to larger base with this one coming out with more alternative/pop sounds than the traditional Nola groove (which is still permeates many songs in this album). Really all 3 of the past albums have been stellar (incl City of Sound and Men Against mountains). MUST see live if you haven’t.
I got love, love, love for this

I didn’t think they’d be able to follow up Men Amongst Mountains - which is one of my 🐐 albums - but they really did. I’m on my 10th spin and the soul just oozes out of every track. They are such a talented band and Mr. Shaw absolutely delivers lyrically and performance-wise track in and track out .
Touché! Swamp jams at their finest.
As an ardent fan of The Revivalists since 2010--when I fortuitously stumbled upon one of their shows on Frenchmen Street in New Orleans on an oppressively hot Saturday night in August--this album makes me very happy. By and large, the songs on Take Good Care are merrier than the songs on Men Amongst Mountains (with a few exceptions). Where Men Amongst Mountains is moodier and edgy (and one of my all-time favorite albums), Take Good Care is more buoyant. The shift in tone might be jarring for those who aren't able to see The Revivalists live consistently, or for those hoping for a duplication of MAM, but I find The Revivalists' ability to pull off both sounds impressive--and it is something not many bands/songwriters can do, and do well.
The album is a pleasure to listen to, start to finish, and it commands repeated listens. I probably prefer the more raw production of MAM, but I also can't blame the band for wanting to explore. Even when I first listened to MAM, it was an adjustment hearing studio versions of live favorites, and not all the songs spoke to me at first. On TGC, immediate standouts for me (excluding the pre-released songs) were You Said It All, Oh No, and Celebration. Other songs I initially felt lukewarm about I have since warmed up to, such as Next To You and Other Side of Paradise. In my opinion, the band's roots are still on full display here, and this album is a welcome addition to The Revivalists' varied repertoire.
The Downward Spiral
Second release in a row that misses the mark. Was introduced to them a few years ago. Never took such a liking to a band only to lose all interest in such a short time. Give me more Purple Heart and less Wish I knew You. You want real rock listen to The Record Company.
Not great.. it’s a step backwards for sure. Sound has changed. Producer should be fired immediately. Vocals are echoed too much and it’s just too chaotic. Strip it down and come raw, that’d be better than this trash. Love them, but this missed the bus.
