Who we are
Radio Jox ("we", "us") is a directory of live radio stations based in Seattle, Washington, USA. This policy explains what information we handle when you use radiojox.com and how we use it. To reach us, use our contact form at radiojox.com/contact.
What we collect
- Server logs. Like most websites, our servers record technical data for each request (IP address, date and time, page requested, browser type). We use it to keep the service secure and working, and keep it for a limited time (normally about two months).
- Preferences stored on your device. We store your language choice in a cookie (
rj_lang) and, in your browser's local storage, your player volume, the last station you chose and whether you dismissed the app prompt. This stays on your device; we do not use it to track you. - Location (only if you ask). "Stations near me" asks your browser for your location. The page rounds the coordinates to about 1 km in your browser before sending them to us; we use them only to find nearby stations and do not store them.
- Favorites without an account. When you tap the heart while signed out, the stations you save are kept only in your browser's local storage (
rj.favorites), together with when you last dismissed the "keep your favorites" prompt. They are not sent to us unless you create an account. - Listener accounts (optional). If you create an account we store your email address, the name you give us, a profile address made from that name, your saved stations and their order, your miles/kilometres setting, and when the account was created and last signed in. There are no passwords: we email you a single-use sign-in link that expires after about 15 minutes. To send it we keep a one-way hash of the link, the time and the IP address of the request (to prevent abuse) for a short period. When you sign in we set a strictly necessary cookie (
__Host-rj_auth) that keeps you signed in for up to 60 days; we store only a hash of it, with your browser's user-agent and when it was last used, so you can be signed out. Sign-in emails are delivered by Amazon Web Services (Amazon SES); if an address bounces or the recipient marks our mail as spam, we record that address so we stop emailing it. - Contact form. If you write to us through the contact form we keep your name, email address, topic and message, the time and the IP address it was sent from (to prevent abuse), and forward it to our team by email so we can reply. We keep these messages only as long as needed to handle your request.
- Broadcaster submissions. If you add or claim a station we collect the email address and station details you provide, to verify and publish the listing.
- Analytics (if enabled). We may use Google Analytics to understand which pages are used. When enabled, Google sets cookies and receives information about your visit under its own privacy policy.
Advertising and featured listings
Radio Jox may show advertising and featured or "Enhanced" station listings. Featured stations are chosen by our editors or are broadcasters who have paid for an enhanced listing; we label paid placements as Featured. At launch, ads are our own house ads and do not use third-party ad cookies or tracking. If we add third-party advertising, we will update this page first.
Radio streams
When you press play, your browser connects directly to the radio station's own streaming server, not to us. That station (and its streaming provider) can see your IP address and is responsible for its own privacy practices. Station logos may also load from station websites.
How we use and share information
We use information only to run, secure and improve Radio Jox, to provide listener accounts and saved favorites, and to handle broadcaster submissions. We send account email only to sign you in; we do not send marketing email. We do not sell personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run the site (for example hosting and email delivery), when required by law, or to protect our rights and users.
Your choices and rights
If you have an account you can change your name and distance setting, remove saved stations, sign out, or permanently delete the account from your account page (“Delete my account”). Deleting it removes your profile, favorites, sign-in sessions and pending sign-in links straight away; routine server logs and backups age out on their normal schedule (database backups are kept for about 7 days). You can clear cookies and local storage in your browser at any time, and you can deny location access. Depending on where you live (for example California or the European Economic Area) you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information; contact us through our contact form at radiojox.com/contact.
Children
Radio Jox is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
Changes
We will post any changes to this policy on this page and update the date above.
